Ethereum developers consider splitting Pectra upgrade, aiming for February release
Ethereum developers are considering splitting the much-anticipated Pectra upgrade into two phases, scheduled to launch in February next year. The decision is intended to improve the network's efficiency and scalability and ensure rapid delivery.
According to Ethereum core developers at a meeting on September 12, failure to release anything before June 2025 after the split will be considered a failure. Therefore, it is particularly important to advance the upgrade quickly.
Developers are currently discussing this plan closely, believing that splitting the upgrade into two phases may reduce risks. In addition, the complexity of the Pectra upgrade, which combines two independent upgrades, Prague and Electra, makes the split particularly necessary.
The industry is optimistic about the Pectra upgrade, which is expected to be the largest major upgrade in Ethereum history. We will follow the relevant decisions of the next all-core developer meeting and share the latest progress with you.
